Chirpatiya is an ancient village in Pali Marwar district of Rajisthan. This area as such is known for yogis and tapasvis. Chirpati was a king of Nepal in few centuries ago who at some point of time renounced everything came to India in search for truth. He happened to come to this village is said to have attained self realisation here and in later years took Jiva Samadhi and found again in Mewar, preaching to masses. Following in his foot steps many took up the then trend of taking Jiva samadhis, a speculative system.. There are five such jiva samadhis including Chirpati’s in this village.

Some aspects of Vedic culture could be distinctly observed. Men and women are found to be in their traditional robes. Men with colorful turban are seen everywhere, it seems the color and the way they tie turban determined their “Varna”. Married women remain fully covered and during any social or spiritual meetings women sit separatly from men maintaining good distance. Food habits are simple and they stick to their local produced food. There are few old ladies and children who never boarded train or bus in their life time and they went to tirthas by walk or by using bullock carts. Another feature of this place is that they dont kill snakes when they are found. In the program venue, a snake was found and a middle aged lady casually picked a stick and threw the snake into the woods.

Holy names were chanted in the streets of Chirpatiya and later Go puja was performed. Later there was presentation on importance of chanting the holy names and about Gau mahatmya. After the talk people present said that there hundreds of cows in the village streets and that they respect them but no one is interested care for them. They wanted to hear more benefits of cow products. We distributed around 200 plates of Kichari prasadam.

Surprisingly there were a plates Bidies( local ciggarettes) distributed. We tried to stop them, but they said it was customanary in satsangs to offer bidies. We understood how Kataiva dharmas take shape. Only four maha books were distributed. Unfortunately culture appeared to represent externally but internally it appeared to be hollow.

A school program was also conducted. The boys and girls were well behaved and were respectful to devotees. It appeared that the students were the right students for varnashrama college

. I was told that people are used to regularly attend satsangs and they believe in god and they pay their respects to sadhus, but they don’t take up any spiritual practices seriously. All this is because of strong influence of the speculative doctrine “work is worship”; just doing your duty (bussiness etc) is service to god, which is preached widely by so called sadhus.
