OM SRI SURABHYAI NAMAH! OM SRI GURAVE NAMAH!
My first stop on the West Africa tour was in the Ivory Coast. HH Bhakti Carudesna Maharaja was on hand to receive me at the airport in the capital city of Abidjan. The first thing that comes to ones notice is the country’s National Flag. It has the exact same colors as that of the Indian National Flag, Green, White and Orange. I shared with Maharaja how in the last elections in India, the now newly elected Prime Ministry, Sri Narendra Modi, had given a fresh interpretation of the color meaning: green refers to organic farming, orange refers to sadhus or spiritual life and white refers to cows who give us wholesome and nutritious milk.
Bhakti Carudesna Maharaja and I travelled together to the temple where the presiding deities of Sri Sri Radha Shyamasundara, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Sri Sri Jagannatha Baladeva and Subhadra grace the altar. Devotees received us by performing kirtan at the entrance of the temple.

The devotees are renting the present location but they have acquired a small piece of land on the outskirts of the city. Devotees also have a cow that is being looked after by some hired person, as they don’t have facilities in the city. To help build awareness about the importance of cows and to also introduce all the devotees to the OM Sri Surabhi Campaign, we decided to visit the cow and hold Go Puja. The arrangements for the cows were not very suitable as the caretaker keeps many cows from different owners in a place that is not well kept. Daily he takes the cows out for grazing in neighboring lands.
The next day we visited the small piece of land on the outskirts of Abidjan. The land is small but seems to be strategically located being on a corner of what will soon become a major through fare. A few devotees stay at this new place where they are growing a few vegetables.
The devotees regularly go out on Harinam Sankirtan and in this way help to bring awareness about the books and ISKCON. Bhakti Carudesna Maharaja has hope to develop a farm community in the near future.
