The first target was Ramapuram as that happened to be the village of HG Sripati prabhu. A small caravan of cars carrying cheering devotees followed the Sankirtan bus with enthusiasm. There were about 30 devotees moving along in three different cars and many inside the Sankirtan Bus.
The team covered a distance of about 200+kms in about four-and-a-half hours. The devotees took a short break in Sripati prabhu’s sister’s house. Far from the madding crowd of city, the village house presented a picture of serenity. As the devotees disembarked from their respective vehicles, sudden shower of rain welcomed them. The house was built in a large area with a beautiful garden laden with several flowers and tulasi.
Ramapuram, true to its name, has several Sri Ram-Laxman-Janaki temples. The advance party of devotees had readied the prasadam for everyone in one big Sri Ram temple. After making themselves fresh the devotees partook prasadam. They moved freely grazing the grass. Their conchlike beauty made them appear like white clouds floating on the ground. Their calves frolicked raising their tails high, excited by the rain.
At about 5:30 in the evening, everyone gathered round the temple for go-puja of one cow named Laxmi. Though very gentle, initially she was little anxious because of the loud kirtan and surrounding huge number of devotees and villagers. The devotees and villagers pulled the Lordships’s chariout through muddy roads of the village. The villagers had been taken by surprise. Almost everyone peered, anxious to know what was happening outside. Wherever the chariot stopped for any reason or there was little place, the devotees distributed the pamphlets, prasadam; halted the kirtan for a while to speak a few words about cow protection and harinam. Sripati prabhu, Satya Madhava prabhu, Ram Lakshman prabhu and Jananivas prabhu spoke a few words on the importance of chanting, gomata, farming, living in villages in the local language. Other devotees who had been accompanying the Yatra devotees cheered jubilantly, distributed pamphlets, invited the villagers to pull the ropes of the chariot and join them for the program at the temple at 9 pm. With these patterned short breaks, HG Gour Gopal prabhu would again resume with his electrifying kirtan. The devotees danced and so did the curious villagers. Nityatripta mataji tried to capture those moments in the camera, while encouraging the village women and children to dance.
A small group of matajis led by Manimanjari mataji, along with a couple of prabhus moved little ahead of the chariot, making rangolis to decorate the path for the Lordships. The wet soil of the village was absorbing more powder than it would usually do. Very soon the rangoli powder got over; they began to ask the nearby located households to give them the rangoli powder, allowing them to get involved in this service. Almost every household contributed their bit of rangoli powder with happiness and enthusiasm. HG Sripati prabhu addressed everybody in Telugu, speaking about the importance of human life, chanting of His Holy Name and go-seva. It was encouraging to see all the villagers hear everything with rapt attention. Many asked several questions as the talk harped on bhumi, role of organic farming in sustainable living. They all pledged to protect the mother cow to let the human civilization prosper further. The devotees also screened a short documentary movie related to cows; Rupanuga prabhu distributed books and panchgavya products with good success. To spice up the program, the devotees added the special flavor of Kartik mas- Damodarashtakam.
