Narasaiah and Laxmi Narasamma—parents of HG Sripati prabhu). The conversation took us back into the glorious past of what was called “a village”–the life centered around pristine life of land, cows and to a great extent god-consciousness or divine life. The couple was engaged by HG Jananivas prabhu in detailed discussions and he excitedly said that he will record these nostalgic memories in a video for the posterity. We could interact with a generation which lived almost a divine life (sattvic) and is also a witness to the rapid loss of divinity with the progress of demoniac culture all around. Their experiences could serve as a live evidence to the prosperity that was, vis-à-vis the present technology-based destructive lifestyle.
Contrast to this conversation was a pre-prasadam session with Bhakta Shivaprasad, a Senior Manager with one of the telecom majors. He was rolling out the future technological advancements in the mobile technology all aimed to entrap the jiva into more and more illusion with dangerous consequences for all living species and environment too![/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_2″ last=”no” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_text]Earlier in the day we had a surprise news that one of the devotees serving in the yatra was bitten by a scorpion in the early hours and was recovering from the pain. When we met the devotee he was apparently oblivious to these difficulties and was very enthusiastic to serve in the yatra with more vigor. HG Gour Gopal prabhu, victim of the enviousness represented by the scorpion, said in a lighter vein that it is so nice to experience “mine-less-ness” (renunciation) due to the daily shifting of residence from one village to another. Before one could start to settle down it was time to shift to another village for the evening preparations, he said. It is apparent from this that how the devotees are willing to take all risks to spread the Holy Name in unknown terrain and are prepared even to take poisonous stings as a means of self-purification. We are sure that the scorpion which caused this pain would get the benediction of associating with devotees of the Lord![/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_2″ last=”yes” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”yes” lightbox_image=”http://www.srisurabhi.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/22753804921_c9bd406f56_o.jpg” style_type=”bottomshadow” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”1″ hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_text]Later in the day we started for the Sri Venugopal temple in Mattampally—the venue for the evening program. On the approach to the village we found many huge cement plants spewing ash and smoke darkening the horizon before it was actually dark. In the distance we witnessed two huge towers and could not figure out its nature. As we were near the venue we realized that it was a church with the twin-towers. Apparently it showed the presence of the faith taking deeper roots. One of the villagers remarked that this was due to the allurement being doled out to the “converts” by means of charity which, of course, is in the mode of ignorance. What one sees is that the gullible innocent village-folk being taken to the mode of ignorance instead of being uplifted to sattvic consciousness. This shifting of the faith is like taking a patient from a Super-specialty hospital to a lesser facility thus stretching his suffering in the material world. One really wonders whether Jesus Christ would be happy with the way people are converted by falsely claiming theirs to be a better faith and creating a climate of distaste towards others’ faith. However, it is said that the trend is changing now and people are realizing their fallacy and are trying to return to their original faith in “goodness mode”. We pray that Srila Prabhupada’s books take roots and achieve the state of dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo….. There were two calves and one cow. After the initial arati by HH Bhakti Raghava Swami we witnessed an almost stampede situation to worship the cows and circumambulate them. It is so natural in the villages that these activities come spontaneously to them. After that we had a winding nagar sankirtan with Their Lordships (Jagannath-Baldeva and Subhadra mai) taken around the village in Their make-shift chariot on a tractor.
Initially the yatra was intended to spread awareness of cow protection, natural living on the land, adopting a pure and healthy lifestyle with addition of chanting of the Holy Name. As we have seen how Srila Prabhupada along with the Holy Name took Jagannath, Baldev and Subhadra mai to the western world, the members of the present yatra also took Their Lordships Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra mai to the streets of the villages they were visiting. Most of the village folks had never heard or seen this form of the Lord. The devotees mentioned that initially they were thinking that the deities would either remain in the bus or would be stationed in the temple as it was difficult to carry Their Lordships on the palanquin with limited manpower. However, from day one Their Lordships were on the streets with arrangements being made by the villagers to carry them around. The organizers expressed that most of the time the procession was eating into the limited time of other events and that they had started announcing that if there were offerings to be made to Their Lordships that should be done collectively in the temple. I myself heard this announcement being repeatedly made but what one witnessed was contrary to that. Many a times the kirtaneers were way ahead and the Lordships stayed-put to receive the offerings from Their devotees. The whole procession appeared like being lifted from the pages of Srimad Bhagvatam when the Lord arrived in Dwaraka![/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container background_color=”” background_image=”” background_parallax=”none” enable_mobile=”no” parallax_speed=”0.3″ background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_webm=”” video_mp4=”” video_ogv=”” video_preview_image=”” overlay_color=”” overlay_opacity=”0.5″ video_mute=”yes” video_loop=”yes” fade=”no” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” padding_top=”0″ padding_bottom=”0″ padding_left=”0″ padding_right=”0″ hundred_percent=”no” equal_height_columns=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” menu_anchor=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_3″ last=”no” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”yes” lightbox_image=”http://www.srisurabhi.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/22119410794_a36638fcca_o.jpg” style_type=”bottomshadow” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”1″ hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_3″ last=”no” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”yes” lightbox_image=”http://www.srisurabhi.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/22715926876_d0861960f6_o.jpg” style_type=”bottomshadow” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”1″ hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_3″ last=”yes” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”yes” lightbox_image=”http://www.srisurabhi.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/22119667254_d016369502_o.jpg” style_type=”bottomshadow” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”1″ hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_text]We were also witness to a degrading civilization so fraught with danger and I was thinking how can one can remain a mute spectator? We saw mid-sized trucks meshed all around. My first thoughts were that they were transporting animals in them, which itself is abominable. But on a closer look it turned out that these trucks were carrying people to their residential areas after the day’s work. They were just filled in the truck like animals! The only satisfying sight was that they had stopped for a while because of the procession and were able to have fleeting darshan of Their Lordships on the makeshift chariot and hear the Holy Name for a short while.
Regardless of that sight, it all appeared as if the holy dham had descended on the village streets and the folks were in festive mood. Throughout the procession, the matajis outnumbered the men and they were not just walking but dancing to the transcendental sound vibration. The matajis’ team was lead by Anyarupa dd, Urmila dd, Mandali dd, Bhaktin Samrajya Laxmi, and Bhaktin Ushaswini. And on the prabhus’ side it was led by Bhakta S. Ramababu, Bhakta Viswanath prabhu (all of them close relatives of Sripati prabhu). The finale of the procession was when we reached the temple mandapam; the local organizers of the event announced that His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami will be seated on a chair in the middle while all the devotees danced around Him. That was an amazing scene–the matajis’ circle was larger and the prabhus were in the inner circle. All the devotees were so much immersed in the Holy Name that the difference between the representative of the Lord and Their Lordships almost thinned. There was complete reverence in the kirtaneers and the devotees in the midst of a representative of the Lord. Then it was time for the temple program to start. HG Hari Kirtan prabhu gave a brief introduction of His Holiness and His complete dedication to the mission of Srila Prabhupada in the local language. Thereafter, His Holiness spoke on the significance of cow protection, localized and natural living and other aspects of life centered around the holy name.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_2″ last=”no” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”yes” lightbox_image=”http://www.srisurabhi.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/22121464603_f969db8ab9_o.jpg” style_type=”bottomshadow” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”center” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”1″ hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_2″ last=”yes” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_text]When the proceedings were on I saw excitement at the stall where books, cow products and other paraphernalia were displayed. Our main book distributor HG Rupanuga prabhu was very busy answering queries and handing out books to the curious ones. I was a passive spectator initially, but could not hold on for long. I engaged a young girl about 12 years who was curiously looking at various things on display. I asked her whether I could be of some help to her. Then she started asking various questions on religion, happenings around us and then I figured that she is the right candidate for “Perfect Questions and Perfect Answers”. I just handed her the book and she went to her mother to get the money. She came back with the money accompanied by her mother. She then started asking about the cow products and its various benefits. After some time I told the young girl to go and sit near the temple to hear the pravachan. She went and returned again and was just standing there aimlessly! Since I had to attend to other visitors I lost sight of her. After some time I realized that she engaged herself in bringing many others to the stall and encouraging them to buy various items. I figured from her own version that she was instrumental in distribution of books and cow products worth a few hundreds. These thoughts were philosophically confirmed in the Srimad Bhagvatam lecture that we were listening to keep ourselves awake during the late hours of driving. It is said how the prakriti has a natural attraction towards the Supreme Purusa like a drop of water rushing to meet the Ocean. If only the Jiva is able to come to its constitutional position, then this attraction would be naturally established and the process for this is chanting of the Holy Name, serving cows and living a more natural life possible in a village environment.[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”20″ bottom_margin=”” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”” class=”” id=””/][fusion_text]Jai Srila Prabhupada!
