“Usually we are very busy and we don’t have time to go to the temple, Lord Krishna understands this, and therefore, once a year, by His causeless mercy, Lord Jagannath leaves the temple to see us.”
(- HH Bhakti Raghava Swami, lecture in a village club)
This holiday was an eagerly awaited one not only by the devotees, but also by all the villagers. Ratha Yatra is being held for many years in a row and has long become a tradition for the village of MalyLisovtsy, where Mother Farm is located.
Ratha Yatra comprised a huge chariot on which the deities of Sri Sri Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra sat. The villagers crowded the chariot even before the procession began along the main street of the village. The children were especially happy. They showered Srila Bhakti Raghava Maharaj with flower petals, pulled the chariot by the rope with such a force that they could compete with the most powerful bull of Mother Farm, named Hamsi. Matajis, like the gopis running to Krishna, some of them losing their earrings on the way, dancing and singing joyfully. Yamuna Prana prabhu was generously showering sweets from the chariot on all the participants of the festival.
After the chariot arrived at the main square of the village, the deities moved and halted at the village club, where His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami told the villagers about Lord Sri Krishna. He said that when Krishna was in Dvaraka, He dressed in royal clothes and lived in luxurious palaces, but always remained in His thoughts in Vrindavan the village where He spent His childhood playing with His cowherd friends, leading a simple rural lifestyle. He used to run barefoot on the ground, grazing cows and calves, enjoying the magnificent fruits and the sweet aroma of flowers in the forests of Vrindavana. Maharaj chose the key concepts of the relationships- “special affection” and “love.” Maharaj also explained to the villagers why the Deities have such an amazing appearance, telling the story of how, during the sacrifice in Kurukshetra, Queen Rukmini communicated with Purnamasi, trying to solve the mystery of Krishna’s affection for Vrindavan. When Krishna, Balarama and Subhadra, overheard their conversation, They took such a form under the influence of emotions, Their eyes widened and Their hands were drawn into the body from transcendental ecstasy.
How could all this fit into a short 30-minute lecture? It seemed that time had stopped… And what emotions are we capable to experience? There is almost no life in our emotions, they are very weak and flat.
Then a competition was announced, children and teenagers appeared on the stage. Anyone, who could recite the Mahamantra without any mistake received gifts from the hands of Maharaj. The culmination of the program was the distribution of large prasadam cake measuring a size of a desk to the sound of kirtan, which was performed by Maharaj, Kishora Krishna prabhu and Bala prabhu.
May all the impressions of this day and all the happy days spent in fellowship with Srila Bhakti Raghava Maharaj and Kishora Krishna prabhu warm our hearts, nourish the mind and lead the way of bhakti!
