Ahimsa: Living a non-violent Life
On Saturday, July 20th HH Bhakti Raghava Swami was invited to present a talk at the Krishna Village Kirtan Hall in New Govardhan to a group of some 20 students attending the Yoga School and Wellness Centre Retreat.
The Kirtan Hall is conveniently located on top of the recently constructed Goshala (cowshed) where Kirtan enthusiasts gather to chant accompanied by various musicals instruments.
The talk focused on the concept of ahimsa or non-violence that we should incorporate in all the different spheres of our lives, beginning with the food that we eat and the milk that we drink, most of which is produced in unnatural ways resulting in severe exploitation and suffering to both Mother Cow and Mother Earth.
The concept of ahimsa should also be introduced in the clothing that we wear, the homes we live in and the medicines that we take. Due to malpractices in all these sectors, we are unknowingly creating various health hazards to our bodies and as well as to the environment.
One attendee who was involved with the Extinction Rebellion Movement asked how Krishna consciousness could avert the impending mass destruction on the planet. Maharaja replied that unless people adopt a cow-based lifestyle and develop a cow-based economy as advocated in the ancient Vedic Culture, the desecration of the natural gifts of nature such as cows, land, forests, water and various agricultural produce will continue to diminish to the point that humanity will become more and more destroyed.
