ISKCON Daiva Varnasrama Ministry–India in collaboration with Mayapur Institute conducted a six-day course on “Varnasrama and Krishna Consciousness”. The course was held in the new Mayapur Institute campus on March 06th–11th, 2019. HG Hari Kirtan Prabhu, Director for Village Development Department of IDVM-India conducted the course.
The course was very interesting because every day different topics were covered:
Day 1: Exploring five types of wealth
Discussed the Five types of real wealth namely Bhu-Dhana (Mother earth), Go-Dhana (Cows), Vidya-Dhana (Education), Seva-Dhana (Service attitude) and Prema-Dhana (Pure love of Godhead, chanting of the Holy Name).
Day 2: Three types of suicides
Discussed three levels of suicides namely gross suicide, mental suicide and killing the soul (not giving the soul the opportunity to be engaged in the service of the Lord). By identifying these three levels of suicide, Hari Kirtan Prabhu also gave the formula on how to satisfy the three i.e, body, mind and soul.
Day 3: Vedic culture ensures real security at all levels
Discussed the importance of Vedic culture, Brahmanical culture based on cow culture, and how the Varnasrama community can protect everybody in society.
Day 4: Simply living to Krishna Consciousness simple living
Discussed the formula given by HDG AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada “simple living, high thinking” and how this principle can be applied while practising Krishna consciousness.
Day 5: Balancing quality and quantity in preaching
Discussed how to balance the quality and quantity of Krishna conscious preaching. Nowadays generally the focus is more on making new devotees, but after making new devotees ISKCON as a spiritual organization doesn’t facilitate them to be engaged in a natural way to maintain their basic needs. As a result, many devotees struggle to just meet their basic needs and get very less time for practising their sadhana. This further results in many of the devotees becoming simply casual devotees, Sunday devotees, festival devotees and Janmashtami devotees.
Day 6: Every town and village
Discussed Lord Chaitanya’s mission to preach Krishna consciousness in every nook and corner of the world, while discussing as to how to preach Krishna consciousness effectively.
These 6 topics were very much appreciated by the students. The course was attended by 13 students from different countries, mostly from Indonesia.
“… not everybody can afford to purchase diamond because diamond is very expensive, out of thousands of devotees now in Mayapur only a few of us are attending this course. This course is like a diamond, not everybody can afford to come. Time is very precious and valuable, I am happy that I got the chance to hear these topics…” said Yadava Hari das (Head of Gauraksa Indonesia)
IDVM–India thanks Mayapur Institute to provide the place and other facilities during the course and we also thank those who are involved in organizing and the students who made this course successful. Special thanks to HG Hari Kirtan Prabhu who offered his time and energy to enlighten us by passing the message of our beloved Founder-Acharya, HDG AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, on the topic of Varnasrama.
