The Varnashrama College this year was inaugurated on 16th January 2019. The opening ceremony included Gau Puja, Kalasha Puja, kankana dharana conducted by HG Sri Jiva Prabhu (Head Pujari at SSKBK), kirtans and listening to the recorded inaugural address given by HH Bhakti Raghava Swami Maharaja, Minister for ISKCON Daiva Varnashrama Ministry (IDVM-India).
Devotional service is always dormant in everyone’s heart, and by the offenseless chanting of the holy names of the Lord, one’s original dormant Kṛṣṇa consciousness is awakened. This awakening to Kṛṣṇa consciousness is the beginning of sādhana-bhakti. The students of the Varnashram college attended the regular ISKCON morning program. A sadhana check sheet was maintained and there was 97% attendance. Students attended everyday Mangala arati prayers, chanted 16 rounds japa, darshan arati, guru puja and Srimad Bhagavatam class.
Certain aspects of material nature impel us towards goodness, others towards passion and still others towards ignorance and thus according to the predominating influence of the particular time, place and circumstance, one is forced to act accordingly.
For those interested in personal upliftment or spiritual progress cultivation of the mode of goodness is essential as it results in developing peacefulness, self-control, austerity, purity, tolerance, honesty, knowledge, wisdom and religiousness (Bg. 18.42) all of which are essential ingredients in the recipe of a wholesome life.
Sankirtan yagna is the kali yuga dharma and mantra japa is one of the prescribed ways of chanting. The saying goes forests and villages are made by God and cities made by humans thus forests are ideal sattva guna predominant places conducive especially for mantra japa. Students of Varnashrana college relished chanting in the serene and divine setup in Sri Sahayadri ( benevolent) Krishna Balarama kshetra
