Hong Kong, 25 May 2016
I received a text from Jayasri Mataji – an Oncologist who took care of Surabhi Prabhu during 6 months of his illness – that we would visit the CowHome in New Territories, Hong Kong. She has grown to be like a ‘big sister’, although in the Chinese horoscope I am one cycle older. Yet, I listen obediently to the tasks she gives me.
We left the ISKCON temple at 9.30 AM in a van with HH Bhakti Raghava Swami Maharaja, 2 Indonesian Prabhus: Kishora Krishna, Guna Avatara and 2 Hong Kong Matajis: Jayasri and Siromani. The trip was comfortable, I almost felt like a tourist but we immersed ourselves in chanting our japas. I could not recall what I saw on our journey except when we went through the winding road and lovely green surroundings, I exclaimed in Indonesian ‘wooo…just like returning home!’ The 2 Indonesian Prabhus broke in laughter.
Jayasri Mataji had to call the CowHome to get direction on how to get there, but sitting by her side I could hear unwelcoming words from a woman on the other end. Still, we got direction and reached the location.

We met the woman who answered the phone. The moment she rested her eyes on Bhakti Raghava Maharaja, her attitude changed. YangYang was then full of humility, kindness and warmth. What we learned later was that she had experienced hardship as unkind visitors used the CowHome for their material gain, stating that they donated a lot of money, when actually there were none.
The CowHome is located on one hectare of land, muddy from the recent massive rains. While Hong Kong is known to have the most expensive property in the world, yet she manages to rent this piece of land to save as many as 160 cows from the slaughterhouse. Also, she runs the whole operation herself since the last 6 years at these premises, located in Sheung Shui, and since the last 12 years before in Yuen Long, hiring only a Bangladesh worker who helps feed and do the daily cleaning chores. She’s worried the landlord will not continue as there were interest of some people to turn it into a horse care for horse racing.

From the entrance to the end of the land, you can hear ” Namo Amitaba” chanted through the tape recorders placed in 3 locations, giving a peaceful state of mind, while we watch the cows munching their daily grass that she has to order every 3 days imported from the USA, costing HK$9300, -/ 3 days.
We absolutely overlooked the messy surroundings, instead outpouring compassion and admiration to this merciful soul YangYang.
I told her I hope I could be 50% like her. She immediately muttered that I should chant Namo Amitaba, each day even one word (I thought just like we as Hari Krishna followers would ask people through Harinam to chant and glorify the name of Sri Krishna).
Finally, we parted with donations and exchanged the warmest feelings, thanking her profusely to have let us into her domain.
She whispered to me that she had many visitors before, yet the moment she saw Bhakti Raghava Maharaja, she felt he was the most humble and kind soul.
Haribol!
